Layman Family Farms is located in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, surrounded by rolling hills of both forests and cultivated lands. The farm is owned and
operated by Eric and Sharon Layman and their family, and includes 85 acres in Blue Ridge, Virginia (part of the Montvale area of Bedford County), and another 65 acres they lease and farm in Fincastle, Virginia, along the Catawba Creek in Botetourt County.
Eric established the first corn maze in the state of Virginia in 2003, after seeing one earlier that year in Utah. The first few years, the maze was located on family property in Botetourt County, but
came to rest at its present location in the fall of 2006.
Each year, the maze grows larger, and thousands of people come to visit and see what we might think of next. Aprofessional consultant helps lay out the maze each year to keep everyone guessing.
New attractions have been added to the farm each year so visitors experience something different. The farm now offers a 10 acre corn maze, 15 acre courtyard, 5 acres parking, 40 acre pumpkin patch, giant jumping pillow, hay rides, cow train, corn cannon, pumpkin blaster, animal alley, and children play area with a corn crib box, rubber duck races, horse swings, giant tube slide and tires.
Eric now leases and farms 65 acres from his father and uncle in Botetourt County along the Catawba Creek where he grows vegetables including tomatoes, cantalopes,
squash, zucchini, peppers, watermelons, beans and other vegetables sold at local farm markets and wholesale to area supermarkets and upscale resorts.
In the spring of 2009, Eric planted the first fruit tree on the farm and within the next 2-3 years, the farm will offer Pick your-own apples from the new orchard.
